RSK Group instrumental in bringing Police Community Support Officer to Helsby1 FebruaryHelsby residents can sleep a little sounder after a Parish Council appeal to local businesses helped raise the funds needed to appoint a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). Upon learning that local consultations had resulted in calls for a greater police presence in the area, Helsby-based environmental consultants RSK Group made what was to be the largest single donation, offering £2,500 towards the £11,000 annual cost of employing PCSO Chris Maddocks. The government-backed scheme will offer public reassurance through friendly community-focused policing and provides a point of contact for local residents. There are currently 270 PCSOs working across Cheshire. Helsby Parish Council chairman Terry O’Neill said: “Following consultation with its residents, the Parish Council decided to obtain extra policing for the village. This would ensure a calming blue presence on the streets of Helsby, but, unfortunately, it comes at a cost of £11,000 per annum. In an effort to ease the burden on the taxpayers, the Council contacted local businesses to see if they were willing to make a contribution. RSK responded immediately and thanks must go to them from the Parish Council and all the residents.” RSK Group chairman Dr Alan Ryder said: “We were approached by the Parish Council for support and, being based in Helsby, we were only too happy to help. It is important for us as a business to ensure the local area is a safe environment, not only for our staff and visitors but also for the community as a whole. Chris’ appointment will help instil a sense of security in Helsby and I’m sure he will be a valuable asset to the village.” RSK’s donation continues a longstanding tradition of supporting local community causes. The company is particularly active in a number of climate change initiatives, having recently a pledged £10,000 towards Chester City Council’s adoption of the pioneering CRed scheme, which will make Chester the city the first in the world to offer all of its citizens personalised guidelines for carbon emission reduction. RSK is also the main business sponsor for Ashton Hayes’ bid to become the first carbon neutral village in England, a project that has garnered significant worldwide acclaim and publicity. In addition to financial backing, RSK supplied the village with technical equipment and environmental consultants to assist with data evaluation and ongoing project monitoring. Notes for editors
