His role is to develop carbon management strategies to help customers steer their organisations along a carbon management pathway towards lower emissions. He has worked as a respected journalist for publications such as the Financial Times and has acted as technical editor for the New Civil Engineer and World Water Magazine. He founded the successful international business-to-business communication agency Technical Editing Services (tes) in 1987. Recently, Garry has garnered worldwide attention as mastermind and project manager of Ashton Hayes’ Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)-sponsored bid to become the UK’s first carbon neutral village. |  | James Garvie, Associate Director James is a chartered chemist with over 15 years of experience and a member of the Institute of Environmental Management. He is head of the RSK Group’s nine-man permitting team, which carries out Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) permitting, air quality and greenhouse gas emission management projects. James worked as environmental advisor to BP on its flagship DF1 decarbonised fuels project which was set to become the world’s first hydrogen-fuelled power station with a facility for carbon capture and storage. He has also carried out energy audits and carbon footprinting for Northumbria Water, and has devised and managed air quality assessment programmes for major infrastructural developments such as the Millennium Dome. |  | Dr Lucy Speirs, Principal Consultant Lucy is a principal consultant and head of RSK’s Sustainable Solutions for the Built Environment team and has over ten years’ experience of sustainability issues, including low carbon and sustainable construction consultancy. She is a Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and sits on the Panel for Environment and Sustainability for the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA). Lucy has extensive experience of sustainable construction and has worked with several housebuilders on EcoHomes, sustainable design, green procurement, low carbon solutions, environmental management during construction, and CSR reporting. Lucy has delivered presentations on sustainable construction and EcoHomes to house builders and development professionals across the UK. |  | Maria Wasley, Senior Consultant Maria is a senior consultant with more than five years experience of environmental assessment, carbon management and the development of award-winning environmental management programmes. She provides guidance to industry on the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EUETS), evaluates greenhouse gas emissions reduction measures and manages environmental impact and BAT assessments and Pollution, Prevention and Control (PPC) permit applications. Maria is a chemical and process engineer and a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). |
