RSK Group expands Manchester office to offer additional services

December 2007

RSK Group has expanded its Manchester office into a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy in a bid to establish a greater presence in the North West’s business hub.

The Group’s current Manchester locale – originally opened in April 2006 to focus on corporate responsibility and sustainability projects – now also accommodates dedicated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), geosciences, brownfield regeneration and remediation teams.

The move is a logical next step in an expansion programme that has, in just over ten months, evolved RSK from a 350-strong, £29m-turnover company to the UK’s largest privately owned environmental consultancy with 700 staff and a £60m sales target for 2007/2008 well within its reach.

As detailed in the 2007 ENDS Report Consultancy Guide, RSK is now one of the UK’s six largest multi-disciplinary consultancies, with a pure environmental service provision greater than that of industry stalwarts such as ERM, Faber Maunsell and Entec.

RSK’s growth spurt began in earnest in December 2006 when it bought out the minority shareholding of American AECOM-owned company ENSR. Since then, it has gone on to acquire 150-strong site investigation company Structural Soils (to become the UK’s largest site investigation provider), 60-strong ecological consultancy Carter Ecological (to become the UK’s largest ecological services provider), pioneering Benelux-based remediation specialists ESA and 40-strong international business-to-business communication consultancy, Technical Editing Services (TES).

Cultivating a strong business presence in Manchester will form an integral part of the Group’s goal to become the UK’s largest environmental consultancy by 2011.

RSK managing director Nigel Board said:

“We need a bigger and better presence in Manchester to compete with our competitors, be closer to our key clients and also to attract new, high calibre employees who don’t want to leave the city.”

Associate director, geosciences team leader and Manchester office manager Ian Goodacre said:

“Building on our existing service capability will facilitate the continued growth of RSK Group in the north as we look to take advantage of the huge opportunities in the regional environmental sector”.

RSK’s Manchester address at the centrally located Fourways House in Piccadilly remains the same.
