RSK Group acquires Technical Editing Services6 AugustThe RSK Group has acquired Technical Editing Services (tes), a 40-strong international business-to-business communications agency, expanding its service provision to include media and communications and further consolidating its position as the UK’s largest privately owned environmental consultancy. RSK now boasts 700 staff across 34 worldwide locations.
“Good communications are integral to business success these days and with tes we have acquired one of the leading companies in this field,” said RSK Group chairman Dr Alan Ryder.
“With its vast range of communications services across a multitude of media, they will be invaluable to the RSK Group as we step up our bid to become the number one environmental consultancy in the UK”.
From its offices in Tattenhall, London and Holland, tes offers strategic communications consultancy, branding and marketing, creative design, multimedia, media relations and speech-writing services to blue-chip clients in the energy and environment sectors.
The merger came about after Ashton Hayes residents Alan Ryder and tes chairman Garry Charnock collaborated on the Ashton Hayes Going Carbon Neutral project, a venture for which both their companies have provided sponsorship and technical staff. The Cheshire village’s drive to become the UK’s first carbon neutral village has inspired communities around the world – as well as the recent formation of RSK Carbon Management Ltd, a company for which Charnock was recently appointed as managing director. Charnock will continue as RSK Group’s brand and communications director, a post he has held since January 2006.
The two companies are no strangers, with tes having hosted RSK’s Proposal Support Centre (PSC) at its Tattenhall office since May 2006. Lead by Jenny Thrussell, the PSC produces all RSK Group proposals valued over £100K, with distinctive design and graphical input coming from tes. To date, the collaboration has been a success, winning half of all the proposals worked on – including breakthrough contracts for new clients – and netting over £6m for the Group. tes has also designed all of RSK’s new-look brochures, site-branding materials and website and has helped produce four RSK promotional videos.
Recently, RSK and tes teamed up to win a prestigious call-off slot on the government-funded Envirowise research and ad hoc consultancy panel, with RSK providing technical support on waste minimisation, resource efficiency and supply chain management, and tes providing marketing services and support.
The acquisition of tes represents another milestone in an ambitious expansion strategy that began in December 2006 when RSK bought out the American AECOM company ENSR’s minority shareholding. Since then, it has acquired 150-strong site investigation company Structural Soils (becoming the UK’s largest site investigation provider), 50-strong ecological specialists Carter Ecological (becoming the UK’s largest ecological services provider) and the pioneering Benelux-based remediation specialists ESA.
