| Structural Soils move into Scotland |
9 October
It follows a series of project successes in Scotland, including securing a £600k commission to support Transport Scotland with major road expansion works on the A82, and anticipating large-scale opportunities such as the Glasgow-hosted 2014 Commonwealth Games. Leading the venture is senior engineer Jon Bassett, who will identify new opportunities for Structural Soils, in addition to assisting RSK Group’s Scotland-based geosciences teams. Mr. Bassett said: “There is a lot of untapped geotechnical-contractor work in Scotland, but RSK has not previously had the infrastructure to take advantage of this. Structural Soils has the resources and skills to make this a success. We are very excited about this move.” Founded in 1964, the 150-strong Structural Soils has an enviable industry reputation. As a high performance company delivering in-demand services to a diverse variety of sectors, its turnover in the past three years has increased by a remarkable 55%. Together with geotechnical consultants RSK Geoconsult, Structural Soils makes RSK Group one of the largest site-investigation service providers in the UK. The acquisition of Structural Soils in February 2007 has been instrumental in RSK Group’s dramatic expansion since December 2006, which has seen an increase in staff numbers by a staggering 156% to 950, a doubling of its turnover potential through no less than ten strategic acquisitions and the start-up of six new in-Group companies. RSK Group is now the UK’s largest privately owned environmental consultancy and is one of the fastest growing companies of its kind in Europe.
