Thermal modelling using finite element analysis

Finite element analysis (FEA) can be used in determining the thermal performance of building components and interfaces for a wide variety of construction types. RSK's building sciences team has extensive experience of using FEA in the Strand 7 environment.

Our specialists undertake thermal FEA modelling in accordance with BS EN ISO 10211: 2001, subject to BS EN 13370: 1998, BS EN ISO 6947: 2007, and the guidance in BRE publications BR443 and BR 497 (accepted conventions for thermal calculations) and BRE IP 1/07.

We use the results of such analyses to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the Building Regulations for a thermally efficient building via the National Calculation Method tools (Simplified Building Energy Model, etc.). The output can be used to identify problems such as condensation risks, so that your designs can be amended and remodelled as required.
