In the feature, Georgie, who is based in RSK’s Hemel Hempstead, UK, office, provides an insight into what inspired her to pursue a career in landscape, what projects she is currently working on and her advice to anyone who is thinking about becoming a landscape professional.
“I have always had a passion for the outdoors, conservation and design,” Georgie tells the publication. “I first considered a career in landscape during my third year of university, when I completed a placement year in industry as an assistant landscape manager. The experience really opened my eyes to what landscape professionals do.”
Georgie graduated from Harper Adams University in Newport, UK, in September 2017, where she studied countryside and environmental management. The four-year course included one year in industry, during which Georgie worked at RSK. After completing her studies, she returned to RSK in a graduate position.
“On behalf of Homes England, I am [now] involved in managing day-to-day maintenance of their portfolio in the South East and South West,” Georgie explains. “I also assist on large infrastructure projects such as Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.”
Georgie out on-site
Georgie goes on to give advice to anyone thinking about becoming a landscape professional. “Just go for it!” she says. “I came into the industry with no practical or specific academic experience and have met and worked with some amazing individuals. I love what I do, and I am excited to continue to extend my knowledge and experience as my career progresses.”
