The prestigious awards, which were presented on Thursday 12 July, aim to celebrate the very best of the construction industry, with the award categories ranging from diversity and training initiatives to projects and sustainability. The Rising Star award, sponsored by the Construction Industry Training Board, was open to professionals who have been in the construction industry for ten years or less, but who have shown innovative thinking and made a significant contribution to their project or business. Rosey found out she had been shortlisted in March 2018, and delivered a ten-minute presentation to the panel of judges in May to demonstrate her passion for and understanding of the construction industry. The presentation focused on how the industry can become more appealing to younger generations.
“RSK senior geoenvironmental engineer Roseanna Bloxham impressed judges with her original ideas on how to encourage young people into a career in construction,” an article in Construction News explains. “She also focused on how to retain future talent in the industry, which the judges singled out for praise. Her commitment to the industry outside of work through her role as a STEM ambassador and blog writer was commendable, the panel added.”

“Over the last few years, I have taken an active role in promoting diversity in the construction industry, and being highly commended in the Rising Star category will enable me to further promote women in construction and engineering to the next generation of engineers,” Rosey commented. “It’s so important that young people are aware of the incredible career opportunities in the STEM subjects, and I hope that I can encourage more young people to join the profession.
“Huge congratulations to the winner of the Rising Star category and all my fellow finalists. I look forward to seeing what changes we can make to the perception of the construction industry.”
