The shortlisted entry for the ‘Best Re-use of Materials on a Project’ award is a joint entry with contractor VertaseFLI Ltd and client Taylor Wimpey for work on the Sandford Farm landfill remediation project, while the entry for ‘Best Scoping or Operation of a Site Investigation’ award is a joint entry with RemedX (an RSK company), National Grid Property Holdings and WYG for work on a major former gasworks in the UK. For the ‘Best Young Brownfield Professional’ award, it was Rosey’s innovation, exceptional leadership skills and contribution to project delivery that impressed the judges. The shortlist adds to an already impressive year for Rosey, who received a high commendation in the Rising Star category at the Construction News Awards in July. She was also named Best Woman Consultant at the Women in Construction and Engineering Awards in 2017.
“I am shocked to have made it through but really excited to be joining other RSK colleagues at the event,” says Rosey. “Congratulations to the Sandford Farm and gasworks project teams who have also made the shortlist in their categories. Fingers crossed for some 2018 RSK glory!”
The Sandford Farm landfill remediation project was seen by many as a gateway project, as the restoration methods, which retained over 90% of the original waste material on site, had not been tried on this scale before. RSK Environment supported Taylor Wimpey throughout the planning application and contract negotiations for the development and went on to complete site investigation and detailed quantitative risk assessments and acted as the NEC3 supervisor throughout the remediation.
The project in the ‘Best Scoping or Operation of a Site Investigation’ category involved high-quality site investigation and in-situ pilot trials to characterise remaining sources of coal tar non-aqueous phase liquids underlying a major former gasworks site. The project was delivered by RSK Geosciences and RemedX for National Grid Property Holdings, with Structural Soils (an RSK company) undertaking the bulk of the intrusive work.
Now in their 14th year, the Brownfield Briefing Awards are the flagship event for the brownfield community and are one of the highest industry accolades that a company can receive. RSK will join professionals from across the brownfield sector at the prestigious awards ceremony, which will be held at the Tower Hotel in London, UK, on 27 September, when the winners of the 14 awards categories will be announced.
More information about the awards can be found on the Brownfield Briefing Awards website.
