“Biocensus is unique in the ecological consultancy sector,” Biocensus managing director Tim Hounsome told the judges. “We deliver the vast majority of our work through a quality-assured network of nearly 700 ecologists from across the UK managed by our in-house team. By deploying highly experienced local ecologists, we minimise travel costs and our carbon footprint while maximising local ecological knowledge. This also ensures that much of the money spent on projects stays in the local economy. Our model allows us to work effectively on small- and large-scale projects. We support our large multidisciplinary clients by mobilising teams of ecologists and providing dedicated survey coordination, scheduling, and QA of survey data. Hence, we provide hundreds of individual ecologists with access to these huge projects.” Tim went on to present three case studies to support their entry: ecological support on the East West Rail Phase 2 project; working with APEM on the Dwr Cymru Welsh Water Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Framework; and the review of a planning decision in 2018.
Tim also provided evidence for Biocensus’s sharing learning and good practice, the company’s commitment to undertaking continuing professional development and supporting the professional development of staff and its promotion of the profession.
Biocensus found out that they had been highly commended at the awards ceremony on 27 June at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London, UK.
CIEEM organisers commented, “The event was a fantastic celebration of the success of projects, businesses and individuals who have made significant contributions to protecting the natural environment. The calibre of nominations was exceptionally high this year, which made judging extremely difficult. Thank you to everyone who entered and congratulations to all winners!”
“It is fantastic that Biocensus has been recognised at the CIEEM Awards,” commented RSK Biocensus managing director Steph Wray. “Next year let’s win the large consultant category as RSK Biocensus and demonstrate the successes we’ve achieved over the last year since becoming a part of the RSK group.”
