RSK Group has been providing wide-ranging environmental consultancy, stakeholder services and geotechnical and environmental contracting services for the Mersey Gateway Project since the contract was won in June this year. Structural Soils (an RSK company) was initially contracted to deliver the preliminary site investigation in the tidal zone last year and is now progressing Stage 2 investigations. The MSc Geotechnics course at Leeds University is one of only three currently being taught in the United Kingdom. The visit thus provided exclusive opportunities for both the university students and RSK - the postgraduates got to see a site in progress, whilst RSK had the chance to impress potential employees of the future.
Feedback from the course tutor at Leeds University has been complimentary. Peter Witherington, RSK deputy chairman, commented, “As the competition for graduates gathers pace with the economic recovery, we want to forge links with universities and give students at least the opportunity to consider RSK Group as a career option.”
Adam Dingle, Structural Soils’ site manager added, “The visit enabled the students to see first hand what a large ground investigation project entails and showed the capabilities of Structural Soils services, and what a career in the industry could offer.”
