Network Rail climate change and energy reduction strategy

In 2007, Network Rail commissioned RSK to prepare a climate change and energy reduction strategy to achieve a 20% carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction for its non-traction activities. The project remit covered rail infrastructure operated by the client such as stations and depots, as well as maintenance and trackside operations.

Network Rail’s climate change strategy will encompass approximately 33,000 employees across a high volume of offices, stations and maintenance depots. The initial focus of the strategy is to reduce energy demand to a minimum before looking at alternative sources of energy procurement.
