The awards were set up in 2014 by Telegraph Media Group and Babcock International Group. Now in their second year, they hope to make the most motivated undergraduates push themselves further with challenges in five key sectors: technology, energy, automotive, pharmaceutical and design in the built environment (construction). To inspire the students further, The Telegraph is publishing interviews with STEM heroes: passionate and successful individuals working in the STEM industries.
In the article, Tuckwell explains his attraction to geophysics, saying, “Geophysics enables you to make sense of a landscape. It also lets you look beneath the surface to reveal a landscape’s hidden secrets. I find that endlessly fascinating.” He also describes his day-to-day job and reveals the exciting bits, such as, “I could be on a plane within 24 hours!”
