Rumaila oilfield in southern Iraq is the fourth largest in the world and accounts for approximately 40% of Iraq’s oil production. It covers an area of approximately 1800 km2 and has topography rising steadily from the low-lying reclaimed marshland in the north to the higher ground levels in the south.
There is a history of flooding across Rumaila oilfield from several sources, including intense rainfall events and high groundwater levels. RSK was commissioned to undertake a flood risk assessment of Rumaila oilfield by a client wanting to develop local infrastructure.
