RSK was asked to respond to an environmental incident involving an outbreak of giant hogweed on a site in Monifieth, near Dundee. The site forms part of a housing development and comprises public open space with set park benches, a public foot/cycle path, two sustainable urban drainage ponds and a children’s play park.
RSK visited the site to confirm and map the giant hogweed, which was found to be extensive on and around the site. We provided immediate advice for managing exposure to the giant hogweed in the short term and then prepared a giant hogweed management plan that presented the issues and an overview of the long-term management strategy.
