Peel Land and Property planned to create a new neighbourhood of approximately 350 new family homes on an 18-ha site known as Burgess Farm on the urban edge of Walkden, Salford. The site included several features relating to historical mining activity, including shafts and worked coal seams. In addition, the site was adjacent to a site of biological importance and contained suitable habitat for great crested newts.
Peel Land and Property appointed RSK to provide assistance at the planning stage through production of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) scoping report. This was followed by coordination of the technical assessments required by the EIA process and preparation of environmental statement chapters for geology, soils, contamination and mining, surface water and flood risk, archaeology and cultural heritage, air quality, noise and vibration. RSK also provided a utility infrastructure report.
