The connection of the Brechfa Forest West wind farm requires a combination of an approximately 25.3-km-long, 132 kV overhead line supported by wooden poles and sections of underground 132 kV cable totalling about 3.3 km. The project is classified as a nationally significant infrastructure project under the Planning Act 2008. This meant that an application for a development consent order had to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate and, given the scale of the project, that an environmental impact assessment was necessary.
