RSK is providing on-site environmental support for the FAST consortium (FCC Construcción, Samsung, Alstom, Strukton, Freyssinet Saudi Arabia, TYPSA and Setec) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where there is no national requirement for recycling. However, RSK consultant Salem Al Zahrani has identified an opportunity to divert plastic waste from landfill. He has reached an agreement with local companies that will provide free waste containers and collection in return for taking the waste and recycling it at their facilities. The Riyadh Metro construction project currently produces 15 tonnes a day of plastic waste. This is an incredible amount of waste diversion. This initiative is solely the brainchild of one RSK employee and proves that one person can make a huge environmental difference.
