The book, which is published bybuilt environment industry expert BRE, is described as “the bible for geotechnic professionals”. The Waverley development in Yorkshire, UK, is one of six new case studies in the new third edition, an update on the second edition released in 2001. Photographs of the Waverley project, provided by RSK’s client Harworth Estates, also feature on the cover.
Harworth Estates is engineering the former Orgreave colliery into Waverley, a brownfield redevelopment that will incorporate a manufacturing park; community facilities including shops, restaurants and schools; 4000 homes; and 350 acres of public open space. The development is currently the largest in Yorkshire. RSK’s initial role in the mixed-use development was a global validation strategy it conducted between 2009 and 2011. Since then, we have been involved in further work on the plots of land as they have been released for development. To date, about 350 houses have been built on the site.
